In this article today I would like to talk about several tips, tricks, and techniques that almost everybody can use to save a substantial amount of money purchasing things at electronics stores.

Times are tough for everybody. Who would’ve oneplus 4k tv 43 inch thought that the recession that began towards the end of 2008 would stretch on all the way into 2010 and possibly beyond? Now it’s more important than ever to save money wherever you can. Many people have held off on purchasing high-priced electronic devices such as flat screen TVs and game systems because of the recession but with these tips maybe, just maybe, you don’t have to.

It’s not always easy to get discounts on high-priced electronic items, especially at the big box stores that seem like mindless faceless corporations. But here are some tips that may help you out.

The first thing to do is think about it as if you were purchasing a new car. Go about it in the same general way. What do I mean by this? Well, never except the stated price without first making an offer. Make sure it’s a reasonable offer but, make an offer nonetheless. Many sales managers have leeway. Don’t bother negotiating with the floor salesman because they often don’t have any sort of authority in this area. Go straight to the manager.

In order to negotiate you really have to know the margins. By margins I mean what the store is trying to make above the wholesale price. Typically, profit margins for video equipment tends to be around 12%, for audio equipment usually around 14%, and for extended warranties the margins are usually 50 to 60%.

You should always be very wary of in-house financing. If there’s one thing this recession has taught us, it’s that credit is a bad thing and it can be even worse for in-house financing of electronic items because many stores will lure you in with an introductory rate then crank it up 20 sometimes even 30% even if you make your payments on time which is something that not everybody notices or realizes.

If you just can’t get them to lower the price then try to get them to throw in some extras like free delivery or free installation. Often times there are much greater profit margins in these areas and stores can afford to knock some of that price down if it will clinch your business.

Finally, it may be a good idea to avoid purchasing extended warranties or any sort of service contracts. These things are created very accurately. By that I mean that most of your problems with the device you purchase won’t occur until after the service contracts runs out and the service contracts are built that way on purpose.
